Not sure if the M1 Ultra works for your material? We've tested it so you don't have to. Here's what you can expect across the most popular craft and industrial materials.
The 10W diode laser cuts colored and opaque acrylic cleanly up to 8mm thick. For clear acrylic, applying dark masking tape allows the laser to absorb energy effectively. Engraving on acrylic produces a frosted, high-contrast finish that works well for signs, keychains, and decorative panels.
The oscillating blade module handles adhesive vinyl, heat transfer vinyl (HTV), and printable sticker sheets with consistent precision. Force adjustment from 0 to 4N lets you dial in the exact pressure for each material thickness without damaging the backing.
Wood is where the M1 Ultra really shines. The 10W laser engraves with excellent contrast on basswood, maple, cherry, and plywood. Cutting goes through 10mm basswood and 8mm plywood in a single pass at moderate speeds. The built-in air assist keeps charring to a minimum.
The diode laser marks glass with a frosted finish — ideal for wine glasses, tumblers, and decorative pieces. On metal, it works best on coated, anodized, or painted surfaces. Bare stainless steel can be marked at lower speeds, producing a dark oxide layer. Note: the M1 Ultra cannot cut metal or glass.
